Makers of the world famous herbal liquer, Jägermeister, could be in trouble after a promotional stunt went horribly wrong on Saturday. In a bid to market the product in Mexico, Jägermeister hosted a pool party which was attended by hundreds of party goers.

It was all fun and games until the hosts decided to create a smoke effect in the pool by pouring buckets of liquid Nitrogen. This seemingly harmless action (at the time), resulted in one comatose partygoer while eight others had to receive treatment from a nearby hospital.

According to eye witness accounts and videos, soon after the nitrogen was poured in, there was a thick white smoke. However instead of joy and merry, the young people started gasping for breath and screaming for help.

Some officials say that the toxic cloud was as a result of a chemical reaction between the liquid Nitrogen and the Chlorine in the pool water.

The victims were pulled out and rushed to a nearby regional hospital.

When contacted, a spokesperson for Jägermeister said: “We are aware of this incident in Leon, Mexico, which is currently being investigated by our headquarters in Germany. Fortunately, all of those who required medical attention are out of danger and recovering.

“We are liaising with our responsible distributor in Mexico who is working with the event organisers and the investigating authorities to understand the full circumstances surrounding the events last Saturday night. "We fully support responsible drinking and adhere to the guidelines within each market in which we operate.”
