MEXICO CITY - Mexico's consumer price index is expected to have fallen in the first half of May as summertime electricity subsidies in northern cities went into effect, offsetting higher prices for some agricultural produce.
The consumer price index likely fell 0.49% in the first two weeks of the month, according to the median estimate of 11 economists polled by Dow Jones. That would bring the annual rate to 4.57%, compared with 4.65% at the end of April.
Core CPI, which excludes energy and fresh fruit and vegetables, is expected to have risen 0.05% in the first half of the month, with the annual rate slowing to 2.8% from 2.95% at the end of April.
