LA PAZ, Baja California Sur - Around 50 people aboard an equal number of kayaks gathered at the beach adjacent to the kiosk at the Malecón in La Paz Saturday afternoon to demonstrate against the privatization of Mexican beaches.

The demonstrators carried signs and flyers in which they opposed the reforms to Article 27 and urged the authorities to guarantee access to public beaches in Baja California Sur. In addition, they gathered signatures of the participants and citizens who were carrying on various recreational activities on the coastal walk.

"Yes there are private beaches on the Baja peninsula and we all know that these are public spaces. For us, who are dedicated to this type of sports activity, we have been blocked from access mainly by land, but sometimes we arrive in a kayak and we have been told that we cannot be in some area beaches," said Luis Manuel Vargas Sánchez, who participated in the demonstration.
