As he led the ceremony commemorating the Battle of Puebla, President Enrique Peña Nieto said that, “A century and a half ago, Mexicans provided proof of their courage, but they left us a lesson in unity and commitment: Mexicans, regardless of their place of origin or political ideology, united to fight the invaders.”

Unity and commitment to our nation will make it possible to overcome any challenge. Unity and commitment are the principles that drive the main political forces and the government to continue with the reforms the country demands and needs; unity and commitment are two values we will encourage at all times to enable society and government to move Mexico forward,” he said.

President Peña Nieto said the unity and commitment that the Mexican Flag inspires must be permanent, and is not only required in wartime but also in peacetime. “Let us recall that the nation is defended and built every day,” he said.
