CINCO DE MAYO: LA BATALLA Official Trailer (PantelionFilms)
As the trailer denotes, Cinco De Mayo commemorates not a tequila-induced party where everyone wears “sombreros”, but a very defining event in Mexican history.
The film was produced by Pantelion, which is a partnership between Mexico’s television giant Televisa and Lionsgate, and is directed by Rafael Lara, who has made smaller films in Mexico, so this is clearly his debut into big budget filmmaking.
The film is a historical drama that retells the events that took place on May 5th 1862 in the city of Puebla where the smaller, and less equipped, Mexican army stopped and defeated the French troops in their intent to conquer the country.
A pretty epic story on all levels, judging by the trailer, the prideful victory is reenacted with its deserved production value.
