What is Baja? (DescubreBC)
The wine region of Baja California has grown exponentially in the recent past, and the region has planned many events this year. Known not only for wine, the valley of Guadalupe just outside of Ensenada is also a huge producer of olive oils, even having won an important contest for olive oils in Italy. Although other regions are starting to make their strides into the industry, most Mexican wines are produced in this area of the Baja Region. Because more wineries have opened and production has vastly been increased, the prices have gone down. 5000 hectares are currently producing wines and olive oil, benefitting Mexico with employment, with some 900,000 visitors annually and growing.
Just south of the city of Ensenada, the wine region has several weeks in the summer that are especially known for tastings and festive events. There will be a festival of cheese, bread and wine in August. Fiestas Endimia and the Entre Sabores Musica Vinedos are two examples. Many Mexican celebrities will be on hand for the musical events. There is a wide variety of concerts for both young and older.
Rosaries Beach is exceptionally popular, and the nearby border town of Tecate has recently become designated as one of Mexico’s Magic Towns. The Tijuana airport is second only to Mexico City airport for connectivity, and a large convention Center is scheduled to open this year. As a result, there will be many more visitors from the business sector.
