The avocado industry is a huge money-maker in Mexico, accounting for as much as $75bn in sales every year. But avocado farmers and exporters said drug cartels have been extorting money from them for years.
Growers are reportedly charged by the hectare, and when they refuse, are threatened with kidnapping and disappearance.
