The Supreme Court resolution that considers homophobic expressions discriminatory must be accompanied by actions on behalf of the community of sexual diversity. It is "a significant breakthrough," according to a constitutional lawyer.
Lawyer Jaime López Vela, coordinator of the Agenda LGBT civic association, says that the Supreme Court of National Justice (SCJN) resolution, which considers homophobic expressions discriminatory, will prevent aggressions against the community of sexual diversity from going unpunished.
But he also sees it as an opportunity to demand that the federal government provide attention to this community, while if these rulings are not accompanied by actions, they will remain, "isolated calls."
"We don't want this resolution to remain an isolated event, but to be accompanied by national public policy," he said in an interview with Aristegui News.
López Vega considers the court resolution, which determined homophobic expressions are discriminatory manifestations and cannot be protected under the law of freedom of expression, is "much needed and it's going to help us to continue in this fight for the equality of our rights,"
Now the sexual diversity community can respond to verbal aggressions against them through legal channels.
"We no longer have to live with these insults, grievances and homophobic expressions that have been dumped on us," expressed the lawyer.
