MEXICO CITY - Free love in Mexico doubled, divorces grew and marriages declined in the last two decades, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), published on Wednesday.

According to the study, which the agency conducted every 10 years, between 2000 and 2011 marriages fell by 19.3 percent and divorces increased by 74.3.

Only in 2011, 16 out of 100 marriages broke the relationship, while nearly two decades ago that record was 4.9 percent.

In the last Population and Housing Census conducted in 2010, 43.9 percent of people aged 15 and over said they were married, and 15.6 have a free relation, which represents that six of 10 had some kind of relationship.
