Jalisco has become the top garment manufacturing state in Mexico, Jaime Eduardo Martínez Flores, Secretary of Economic Development of the State of Jalisco, has said.
 
Inaugurating the 58th edition of apparel exhibition IM Intermoda, the official said innovation and design have helped Jalisco to become an important garment manufacturing hub in the country, El Economista reported.
 
Maria Rosario Mendoza, president of the National Chamber of the Clothing Industry (Canaive), Jalisco division, said the growth of garment sector is largely due to availability of skilled labour.
 
He said the apparel sector accounts for seven percent of Mexican manufacturing industry, and therefore it is important for the nation’s economy.
 
 
He urged the garment sector to strengthen its working relationship with the new federal government of Jalisco and various research centres to sustain its growth.
 
Around 800 exhibitors are showcasing their products at the 58th edition of IM Intermoda.
 
The Jalisco region has presence of about 1,800 clothing manufacturing units which together employ about 18,000 people.
