The State Water and Sewage Commission made a second delivery of building materials to families in Othon P. Blanco municipality this week as part of Quintana Roo’s Heritage for Well-being program.

The program was started by Governor Roberto Borge Angulo on Dec. 11, 2012 in the Territorio Federal neighborhood to benefit poor families who could not afford materials to build their homes. It provides families with low-cost building materials, subsidized by a donation from the Congregación Mariana Trinitaria, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the quality of life of poor families. The Congregación Mariana Trinitaria, led by Catalina Mendoza Redondo, has committed 200 million pesos to social programs throughout the state.

This week’s delivery to more than 80 families included 24 water tanks, 65 pieces of sheet metal and 90 buckets of paint. Overall, the program has provided Quintana Roo families with 300 bags of cement, 500 water tanks and a large quantity of sheet metal and paint, along with other building materials. The program is open to families of all income levels building single-family homes.

The governor said that the program is improving quality of life for Quintana Roo residents and reducing “housing insecurity” in the state, adding that Heritage for Well-being program is a part of his administration’s Government Plan.
