MEXICO CITY – Mexican businesses can now apply for a U.S. government program that expedites non-immigrant business visas.

The U.S. Embassy and all U.S. consulates in Mexico are allowing businesses to schedule appointments online to apply for the Business Facilitation Program in a bid to increase BFP membership and bilateral trade. The United States imported $233 billion in goods from Mexico in 2012.

The BFP lets businesspeople apply for business instead of tourist visas and the Embassy says it will yield faster administration processes and delivery.

“The BFP will provide time-saving benefits for businesses whose employees need to travel to the U.S., and highlights the United States’ commitment to deepening trade and economic engagement with Mexico,” the Embassy said in a statement Monday.

All businesses in Mexico are eligible for the program, but companies with less than 100 employees must get a recommendation from the American Chamber of Commerce, the Mexican Chamber of Commerce or the Mexican National Association of Importers and Exporters (ANIERM).
