MEXICO CITY – Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said yesterday that he was confident that 2013 would usher in a new spirit of hope in Mexico that will help the nation tackle some of its most daunting challenges.

In a post on his webpage, Peña Nieto wished the Mexican people a happy and healthy New Year, saying that good health is key in helping people follow through with their New Year’s resolutions.

He also said that he hoped that 2013 would be a year of significant progress as a nation.

Peña Nieto called on citizens to become active participants in the construction of a “new” Mexico, saying that he hoped the nation would transition into a new era of “greater progress and development.”

“Lets make Mexico not only proud of its past, but a country committed to improving its present and conquering its future. A bold country that is prepared to succeed. A Mexico where everyone can write their own success story and be happy,” the president wrote.
