The Mexican Supreme Court authorized the civil courts to resolve the pending cases of protection for crimes committed by soldiers against civilians or in connection with drug trafficking, and in the former military jurisdiction was applied.

The high court on Wednesday published in the Official Daily an agreement whereby the civil courts will review the requests for protection and other conflicts involving soldiers accused of crimes "against civilians and against the (public) health."

The high court noted that in different sessions held in August and September the criteria were established regarding the limits of authority of the military courts and the civil courts were authorized to continue pursuing the cases.

"The matters referred to earlier, pending resolution in the Circuit Courts, will be resolved by them applying the criteria ... determined by the court," the high court said.

In July 2011, the Supreme Court restricted military jurisdiction in Mexico in accordance with a 2009 ruling by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights concerning Rosendo Radilla, who disappeared in 1974.
