CADIZ, Spain - Mexico President Felipe Calderon highlighted the paradox of the Federal license on the sale of marihuana in some US states.

Calderon called crucial settling problems like violence and organized crime he defined as an international pest and reminded that Latin America is in the death route of drugs, immigrants and human trafficking.

It also gets a southwards flow of illegal money and weapon trafficking that turns Latin America into a dangerous war zone, he told the plenary session of the 22nd Ibero-American Summit in this city.

Before passing on the office to President elect Enrique Peña Nieto, Calderon thanked the listing of the drug issue in the joint declaration, especially the concerns about some nations' change of policy, alluding to the US.

While a Mexican farmer may go to prison just for planting an hectare of marihuana and the violence that drug trafficking generates kills tens of youngsters, the US people are now free to cultivate it as they feel.

We are now fighting the cartels but we could have long wiped them out if they were not fed billions of US dollars from consumers, especially in the US, said Calderon.

At least 20 billion flow through the hands of the capos and their rings every year, which empowers the criminals to destroy the Judiciary and influence the political process, comments the statesman, who denounced Washington display of films encouraging illegal drug consumption.

In addition, and finally, many worry about stopping drug supplies, but pay little attention to the north-south flow of money towards Latin America.
