Believe it or not, there are more than two people in the race for the US Presidency. Despite a blackout from the mainstream media and the political establishment, there will be a platform for the major third-party candidates this week.

RT News will be presenting this debate, after next week's third and final debate between current US President Barack Obama and the main challenger, Mitt Romney.

Giving the American public a chance to view other candidates for the prime position, multi-award winning broadcast journalist, Larry King, will be moderating the event.

The third-party debate will be broadcast live from the Hilton Chicago, in Chicago, Illinois on October 23, with RT America and RT.com offering the event live in cooperation with its organizers, the Free and Equal Elections Foundation. For those in or near Chicago, tickets can be purchased on their website.

The event will also be broadcast live by Ora TV on YouTube and by Al Jazeera English, but will not be on the major cable TV news networks. According to the Huffington Post, C-SPAN is also currently looking into whether or not to carry the debate.

Star of RT's "The Big Picture" and noted radio host, Thom Hartmann, is one of a few select journalists hand-picked to hit the candidates with questions on their campaigns.

While they have been largely silenced by the two-party political system, it will be possible to watch Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode and Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson debate their campaigns live. Of extreme interest will be their arguments for how they envision the US under their own leadership.

Free & Equal Founder, Christina Tobin told the media, “The previous debates between President Obama and Governor Romney have failed to address the issues that really concern everyday Americans. From foreign policy, to the economy, to taboo subjects like our diminishing civil liberties and the drug war, Americans deserve a real debate, real solutions and real electoral options.”

Larry King retired from his role as CNN commentator just last year, and in a press release, says that being given the opportunity to test the wits of the third-party candidates is a “a truly exciting opportunity.”

“I have interviewed every US President since Nixon, and lest people forget, I helped usher Ross Perot into the national conversation during the 1992 presidential contest. I appreciate the importance of providing a platform to those with real alternative visions for our country’s future,” King says.

The pre-debate coverage will start on RT America at 8pm US Eastern on October 23 (00:00 GMT) with a panel of journalists and commentators including RT's Thom Hartmann discussing on this year’s election. An hour later, King takes over with the arguments from the candidates themselves.

Should make for some very interesting viewing.
