President-elect Enrique Peña Nieto believes that the labor reform bill passed by the Chamber of Deputies and sent to the Senate on Wednesday, will make Mexico more competitive.

The future leader claimed after meeting in private with the leadership of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) that the law will generate increased investment and jobs.

Peña Nieto expressed his confidence that the Parliament will approve the proposal, presented by President Felipe Calderon and modified during its debate at the Chamber of Deputies.

Coinciding with his statements on Wednesday, a demonstration by workers and students blocked the seat of the Senate protesting against this revision to the labor law. Leftist parties, union and other social organizations oppose the controversial labor bill, arguing it will severely affect workers.
