Facebook has taken its campaign to boost organ donations to Canada and Mexico. The feature allows Facebook users to tell their friends and family that they're registered organ donors. It also directs people who aren't signed up as organ donors to the official registries where they live. Here's Facebook's organ donation how-to.

It was Friday, September 26, 2003, when then-President Vicente Fox decreed the "National Donation and Transplantation of Organs Day."

From that day, millions of Mexicans saw a life expectancy. Mexico has evolved with technology and thanks to this, it is possible to donate through a click today.

On September 18, the Carlos Slim Institute of Health and the social network Facebook filed an application that allows the user to become a donor.

The National President of the DIF, Margarita Zavala, was the first to join the "Heroes for Life" program and pointed out that age does not matter in saving a life.

Despite the National Center of Transplantation (CENATRA) and the program of the Fundación Telmex "Organ Donation and Transplantation," the culture of donation in Mexico is minimal, since there are only 3 or 4 donors for every million people.

But despite so much apathy, the Ministry of Health, CENATRA, and the Telmex Foundation continue to struggle day by day in saving lives and maintain in force the Hippocratic oath.

Mexico has 31 States and a Federal District and has 402 authorized hospitals to perform transplants.

The kidney is the organ most transplanted and there are 8,846 people on the waiting list, hoping to get the body part which will enable them to have a better quality of life.

While Mexico is in 10th place worldwide in donation, it occupies the positions 41 to 50 of the total number of transplants for each million inhabitants.

According to information from the Ministry of Health in 2011, 2,469 kidneys were donated which is the highest number achieved in the history of the country. In 1963, there were only 3 donated.

The National Foundation for Transplants (FUNAT) Telmex, was created in October 2000 and started its activities in March of 2001 and has obtained the greatest social impact at the national level. In the 46-year history of these surgeries in Mexico, 15.6% have been transplanted in the period in which FUNAT is involved.

FUNAT participated in the Decree which created the "National Organ Donation Day" and has established agreements with airlines so that organs and tissues are transferred without cost.

Programs such as "Goals for Life" has made it possible to provide a transplant of cornea and kidney respectively for each goal scored, which was created in conjunction with Mexican football teams.

Mexico has learned that life must always prevail and that is why today in the National Day of the Donation of Organs.
