BOGOTÁ, Colombia – The government of Mexico will mirror the Colombian government’s effort against organized crime and narco-trafficking, Mexican President-elect Enrique Peña Nieto said after meeting with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos in Bogotá on Sept. 18.
“I’m convinced the experiences and the work carried out by Colombia will feed into our policies and the actions we’ll take to achieve peace and security in our country,” Peña Nieto, who takes office on Dec. 1, told reporters.
Peña Nieto said he will count on the advice of former Colombian National Police Director Gen. Óscar Naranjo to confront violence and drug-related crime in Mexico.
He also wished Colombia luck in its upcoming peace talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
“I want to express my wishes of success to move from this effort and provide greater security to Colombia in a greater effort to achieve full peace in the country,” he said.
Peña Nieto is touring several Latin American countries, including Guatemala, Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
