HAVANA, Cuba - The Institute of Industrial Property of Mexico (IMPI) gave a certificate of acknowledgement to the Cuban Cohiba cigar brand this week for its fame among smokers worldwide.
While handing over the certificate at the El Laguito factory, at Havana’s Playa municipality, Jorge Rodriguez, director of the IMPI, pointed out that this acknowledgement is in accordance with the quality and presence of Cuban cigars on his country’s market.
Rodriguez asserted that the island’s cigars represent the nationality and traditions of a unique product, made by hands treasuring vast experience in this trade.
During the ceremony, Jorge Luis Fernandez, co-president of the Habanos S.A. Corporation, stated that Cohiba is increasingly gaining space at an international level, since its release on the market in 1982.
Cohiba is the most representative of all Cuban cigar brands, and was created in 1966.
