The Mexican states of Veracruz, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Tabasco, Guerrero and Chiapas reported a higher incidence of dengue in the country, health officials warned.

However, 'there is no cause of alert, just to care and work with hygiene measures that will allow us to go throughout this year as we have in the past in relation to dengue incidence,' Secretary of Health, Salomon Chertorivski said.

According to the federal official, it has been allocated 117 million additional pesos (about nine million USD) for prevention activities, specially fumigation.

He stressed that in the current year is estimated an increase in the number of dengue cases and therefore the Ministry of Health is closely working with state and local authorities of the southeastern states of the country where there is the largest number of cases of the disease.

So far, there are 18,000 cases of dengue reported in the entire country, Chertorivski said.

The official also stressed the presence in Mexico of Nile Virus, caused by the mosquito, and noted there is an epidemiological surveillance due to the outbreak in the United States.
