Bill Clinton - 2012 Democratic National Convention - Speech Highlights (YouTube)

Former President Bill Clinton delivered an unabashed endorsement of President Obama at the Dem National Convention in Charlotte on Wednesday night, saying he inherited a terrible economic situation and kept it from getting worse.

Clinton delivered a rousing, rollicking speech in Charlotte and an impassioned plea for Americans to vote for President Barack Obama - 'a man cool on the outside, but burning for America on the inside.'

Speaking only from notes displayed on a teleprompter, the former occupant of the White House from 1993 to 2001 defied those who had doubted whether he would enthusiastically back the man who defeated his wife Hillary in the 2008 Democratic primaries

"In Tampa, the Republican argument against the president's reelection was pretty simple: We left him a total mess, he hasn't finished cleaning it up, so fire him and put us back in," Clinton said in remarks prepared for his prime-time speech, the climax of the second day of the Democratic National Convention.

"I like the argument for President Obama's reelection a lot better," Clinton went on. "He inherited a deeply damaged economy, put a floor under the crash [and] began the long hard road to recovery."
