The Caravan for Peace, led by poet Javier Sicilia, will arrive in New Orleans, Louisiana, today, on its second week touring the United States, in a call to awareness about violence in Mexico.
The 150 members of the caravan, including relatives of victims of violence in Mexico and activists, will hold a vigil for peace and solidarity along with local organizations tonight.
During the trip, started on August 12, Sicilia has reiterated that the fight against drug trafficking in Mexico has failed.
As an example of that, the poet said that failure in San Antonio is not only in terms of supply and demand for drugs, but also it has created an illegal economy to feed organized crime, whose main market is just in the United States.
They also held a vigil in San Antonio, and were received by members of the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities, a network of community-based organizations led by immigrants.
The Caravan for Peace has so far rolled through 16 southwest U.S. cities on the way to Washington, where the group expects to arrive on September 12.
