The average per night cost at a Cabo hotel over the summer is expected to reach 500 dollars, making it the most expensive Mexican destination by quite a wide margin.
Just for comparison, the average per night rate in Mexico, as a whole, sits at 289 dollars. That’s with the Cabo 500 dollars factored into the average.
In spite of the fact that Cabo boasts the title of the most expensive Mexican destination, tourists keep flocking to the area.
In fact, it is because of this popularity that the rate has continued to climb. Insurance company Allianz even placed Cabo as one of the favorite destinations for American travelers.
What makes Cabo so special that tourists keep coming here despite the high costs?
The head of the Los Cabos Hotels Association, Lilzi Orci Fregoso, had said in interviews throughout the last couple of months that hotels were looking for “quality tourism.”
To that end, they would not be reducing the rates to fill up their facilities. In her most recent media appearance, she revealed that Cabo hotels are expected to be, on average, 69% full through the end of June, with a 67% occupancy rate throughout July.
In comparison, other Mexican destinations such as Cancun are expected to see occupancy ratings of about 80%.
With nearby destinations like Akumal and Playa del Carmen seeing their rates in the mid-80s. Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta will also see occupancy ratings in the mid to high 80s, according to the Federal Tourism Secretary’s office.
With staff at Cabo hotels having the luxury of catering to fewer people, this can lead to better service.
