The Attorney General's Office (PGR) is currently investigating about 2,000 involved in corruption, according to a report in the hands of the Senate.

The document was delivered by the former president of the PGR, Raúl Cervantes, who resigned three days ago arguing that this could open the way to the appointment of the Attorney General of the nation, subject to partisan controversy.

Cervantes, who had been appointed to the post, was objected by civil organizations for his ties to the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party.

The matter caused the president Enrique Peña Nieto to propose that the designation of the General Prosecutor, part of the anti-corruption system approved by the Congress, is postponed until after the elections of July of the next year.

According to the document, quoted by the newspaper La Jornada, some civil servants related to the Odebrecht case, which involves the Brazilian company with bribery here, as well as in other nations of the continent, are among those under investigation.
