According to RT, authorities have confirmed that at least 16 people are dead and eight others injured following a shooting at a drug rehabilitation center in Chihuahua, Mexico.
“An armed group entered the rehabilitation center Uniting Families and shot and killed at least 14 people, and leaving eight more injured,” a press statement said from the local police of Chihuahua.
El Universal reported that state prosecutors said five men and one woman are in serious condition, resulting from the incident which took place at around 9:50 p.m. local time.
Tiempo cited witnesses who said gunmen, outfitted with AK47s, alighted from a white sedan and opened fire on a building.
Reports are that approximately 25 people may have been inside the center at the time of the attack.
At least half a dozen similar attacks have taken place over the past decade, according to AFP.
Chihuahua borders the United States and is renowned for violence stemming from drug trafficking.
