Former Nayarit governor Roberto Sandoval Castañeda (El Universal)

Former governor Roberto Sandoval Castañeda fled Nayarit for Perú last Wednesday, September 20, in a private airplane, a Learjet XA-JKM, accompanied by his wife, Lilia López Torres.

This happened just hours after his nephew, Hugo Ismael Sánchez Sandoval was murdered, and also while the former governor is being investigated by the federal Attorney General for illegal enrichment, according to reports from several local and national news media.

According to witnesses and public complaints, the governor's nephew was pointed out in Nayarit as the financial operator of Roberto Sandoval's businesses, among them the purchase of thoroughbred horses and collecting bribes from businesses picked for public works.
