The parents of the 43 Mexican students who disappeared in 2014 in Ayotzinapa have accused the country's Attorney General of failing to comply with transparency commitments and information about the investigation.

Mexico agreed in 2016 with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, IACHR, to create a mechanism inside the Ayotzinapa case to provide information and answer to recommendations made by a human rights group.

"We have not been informed of any progress or how the investigation is going. The schedule stated that they should have informed us in the second week of August and nothing," Vidulfo Rosales, a lawyer for parents of the missing students, told AFP.

Some of the students' relatives, as well as activists, organized a protest outside of the prosecutor's office to condemn the lack of commitment from Mexican authorities to finding out the truth.

According to the official version, students from an Ayotzinapa teacher's training college in Iguala, Guerrero state, which is renowned for political activism, were heading to a demonstration on a bus when they were pulled over on Sept. 26, 2014.

A group of rogue police officers allegedly detained the 43 students and handed them over to a cartel that killed them and burned their bodies, activists claim.
