Female death squads who use their good looks to get close to rivals then kill have become the most effective secret weapons for Mexico’s drug cartels.
The assassins are young Mexican women who ooze beauty and charm — known as “Las Flacas” (Skinny Girls) — and are now common place in major criminal cartels and their drug trafficking operations.
The girls are hired based on their appearance to lure their victims using charm and sex appeal and are deployed for missions where subtlety and infiltration are likely to be more effective than brute force.
They typically operate in groups of three or four and strike when their targets least expect it.
Virginia Commonwealth University professor Andrew Chesnut is a leading expert on La Flacas. He said the women were successful agents because they were able to keep a low profile and “avoid suspicion where men doing the same job would quickly find themselves in trouble”.
“They are ideal killers: young, beautiful and reckless,” he told Fox News.
Some Flacas have reportedly had cosmetic surgery in a bid to attract more male attention and operate more effectively.
