Mexico national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio will miss the CONCACAF Gold Cup after FIFA suspended him for six games following his outburst during the third-place match at the Confederations Cup.

Osorio's punishment comes with a fine of 5,000 Swiss Francs ($5,185).



The FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced its decision Friday after reviewing the July 2 incident in which Osorio "used insulting words towards the match officials while displaying an aggressive attitude towards them."

Mexico lost to Portugal, 2-1, after extra time.

Depending on how many games Mexico plays in the Gold Cup, Osorio's suspension could carry over to subsequent official matches. In the Gold Cup, teams play three games in a group stage and then advance to an eight-team knockout round. The winning team and the runner-up play six games apiece.

Mexico opens the tournament on Sunday against El Salvador in San Diego.
