Mexican students won most of the medals at Robochallenge México 2017, an international robotics competition held in Mexico for the first time.
Students from the National Institute of Technology (TecNM) won nine gold medals, nine silver and five bronze at the tournament, which drew competitors from Japan, Romania, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Mexico.
There were 600 robots at the two-day event, held at the TecNM campus in Poza Rica, Veracruz. Students from Japan took first place in one category, but the Mexicans won in all the others.
The tournament was held in conjunction with the first National Robotics and Mechatronics Congress. Together they drew an estimated 2,000 people per day to the TecNM campus.
