Senate PRD Leader Dolores Padierna Luna during a meeting of the Senate in Mexico City (Cuartoscuro)

Dolores Padierna Luna, Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) Senate leader, dismissed any future alliances with the National Action Party (PAN).

The statement came after PRD President Alejandra Barrales Magdaleno met with PAN President Ricardo Anaya Cortés over the weekend and made comments that suggested a possible alliance for the 2018 presidential elections.

Padierna Luna regretted the comments of Barrales Magdaleno and said she was told that the meeting was in order to get PAN candidate Josefina Vázquez Mota, to quit the race for governor in the State of Mexico.

Padierna Luna made it clear that the PAN’s agenda is in complete contrast to what the PRD wants and that Barrales Magdaleno’s statement may cost the party votes in the State of Mexico.
