Photographer Maya Goded has spent a large part of her career documenting life on the streets of Mexico.

Her series’ Sex Servants, set in the infamous Merced borough, and Welcome to Lipstick, in the red light district close to the Mexico/US border, have captured the faces of dozens of women who depend on their sexuality for survival.

In 2015, after three years of working on the project, Maya presented her first documentary at Sundance titled Place of Solitude, an experimental film which provided a narrative to the portraits of the women that she had been photographing across a period of almost 20 years.

During the 85 minute film, the photographer takes us into the homes and minds of these women who are now aged between 50 and 80 years old and have changed opinions on the industry that was once their life supply.
