Streets in Mazatlan were flooded after a shark tank at the aquarium cracked and released torrents of water (Pastor Gomez)

After six years of construction and an investment of almost 80 million pesos, the shark tank at the Mazatlán Aquarium lasted only 38 days.

Wednesday, a crack in one the tanks flooded the interior of the aquarium in minutes and aquarium staff had to be evacuated.

The incident happened at about 6:00pm, when the Aquarium is closed. Milay Quintero, General Director of the Aquarium, said that no injuries were reported during the incident and that the sharks and fish were not affected because they were moved to another pool.

The Mayor has described the damage to the shark tank as “very serious” and has ordered his administration to conduct a full review of the incident.
