Mexico is among the 12 signatories of the TPP. It's also part of the North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA. Both trade deals are in jeopardy under the Trump administration, with Trump seeking to renegotiate NAFTA. Mexico's president has outlined a new set of foreign policy goals. These aim to help the country adapt to the new realities of the Trump era. (CGTN)

In a speech in Mexico City, President Enrique Pena Nieto laid out 10 goals for upcoming talks with the United States on the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), El Financiero reported.

He stipulated that any deal must modernize the trade agreement to include e-commerce, telecommunications and energy. Pena Nieto also said that commercial exchanges must continue to be tariff free and a deal must translate into better wages for Mexican workers. He also said that the renegotiated agreement must protect foreign direct investment into Mexico.

The president focused on the rights of Mexican immigrants, saying that the United States must not interfere with the flow of remittances and that any repatriation of migrants must be orderly. Mexico will attempt to shape the negotiations with the administration of President Donald Trump as best it can, but the United States has the upper hand.
