A team of divers struck gold after discovering an ancient Mayan relic while exploring a forgotten network of underwater tunnels.

Located in Mexico’s mysterious Yucatan Peninsula, the labyrinth of sunken caves and passages were forged over thousands of years.

The caves dominated the mythology of the Mayan people who lived in the area for millennia, believing the cenotes – or sinkholes – to be the entrance to the underworld and home to the gods.

Incredible footage shows the moment two brave divers set off to discover the forgotten treasures of the Mayan underworld.
