Mexico faces battle over auto industry (Financial Times)

Confidence of businesspeople to invest continued collapsing in December for the seventh consecutive month, due to greater pesimism regarding the present and future economic situation in Mexico, revealed the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

According to the confidence indicators of the last month of 2016, elaborated witb the results of the Monthly Survey of Business Opinion, that of the manufacturing sector was 46.7 points in December. This amount is less by 0.33 points regarding the previous month.

With this data, the business confidence indicator in manufacturing keeps below the 50 points for 13 consecutive months, says the poll.

The yearly comparison shows that original figures of that parameter was 46.5 points in December, showing a reduction of 3.3 points.

The same indicator, but in construction, shows that the level of confidence of businesspeople in this sector on the present and future economic situation of the country and its enterprises, was 43.4 points in December.

That figure is 5.6 points less than the same month a year before, when it reached 48.9 points. The indicator of business confidence in retail trade also dropped.
