Mexico’s government is telling migrants driving home for the holidays from the United States that they should form convoys for their own safety while traveling through Mexico (The Americas Post)

Mexico’s consumer protection agency is beginning to offer financial advice to Mexican nationals living in the U.S. and returning to their native country.

Mexican officials believe that immigrants in the U.S. own a substantial number of homes. Their estimate is that more than 1.3 million Mexican citizens are homeowners. Some of them, officials said, are living in the U.S. unlawfully.

The government of Mexico wants to make it as easy as possible for Mexicans who want to return or are forced to return, according Mario DiCostanzo, head of Mexico’s consumer protection agency.

That includes helping people get a power of attorney so that if they’re deported they can quickly transfer their home ownership. DiCostanzo said the agency is offering services in the Mexican consulate in San Diego and will soon expand to Los Angeles, Dallas and other cities in the Southwest.
