NGOs Demand Conclusion of Attorney General's Investigation of Ayotzinapa Case Proceso

Dozens of civil organizations have demanded that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) immediately conclude the internal investigation into the Ayotzinapa case, as well as sanction officials who incurred illegalities.

In a statement, the organizations referred to some of the information revealed by Proceso on the investigations conducted by the General Inspector (DGAI) of the PGR regarding the irregularities committed by those responsible for the investigation into the enforced disappearance of the 43 students. One of those investigated is the former director of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), Tomás Zerón de Lucio.

Although the Agreement of Conclusion of the General Directorate of Internal Affairs, dated August 18, [which was obtained by Proceso] gives an account of the illegal actions committed by Zerón, he was given the position of technical secretary of the National Security Commission (CNS) by Enrique Peña Nieto, on September 14.

For the organizations, the information also published by the newspaper Reforma newspapers, The New York Times and the Aristegui News website, shows that "the draft resolution has been withheld and hampered."

They added that:

"the failure of the PGR to complete the investigation, notify the next of kin, and sanction the responsible officials, reveals an eagerness to cover up both irregularities and their legal consequences", and worse "this omission represents an obstacle to arriving at the truth of the case, because it supports the prevailing theory based on illicit evidence."

The signatories pointed out that among the irregularities detected by the agents of the Public Ministry attached to the DGAI they highlight the offenses against the six detainees by whom the "historical truth" is maintained that the 43 young men were executed and burned in the Cocula garbage dump.
