Update: Mexican Formula One Driver Perez Sponsor Creates Charity After Trump Fracas (Agence France-Presse)

On a day where five drivers had to exit the Brazilian Grand Prix before its conclusion, Force India's Sergio 'Checo' Pérez said he felt lucky just to finish. But the Mexican Formula One driver did more than just end the race, he finished fourth, his fourth top five performance of the 2016 season.

As the rain washed down in Sao Paulo, track conditions made for a stunted, frustrating race for most of the field. Despite the rough outing, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton led the entire way, winning his ninth race of the season and keeping the pressure on Nico Rosberg with one race to go.

Pérez, meanwhile, has all but secured seventh place, improving on his highest point total ever and delivering an inspiring performance in Brazil, barely missing out on his third podium this year.

“Just getting to the finish line on a day like this feels like a victory,” said Pérez. “And to bring home fourth is a very important result,” he continued.

After being fifth for most of the race, Pérez passed Nico Hulkenberg after a tire puncture. A pit stop from Max Verstappen towards the end of the race briefly elevated Pérez to third, but the Mexican driver dropped to fourth with just two laps to go.

“Even though I am a bit disappointed, we can still celebrate a great race and an incredible result,” Pérez remarked.
