Upadate: Mexico Freezes Accounts, Properties of Ex-Governor Javier Duarte (Associated Press)

Mexico on Friday offered a 15-million-peso (roughly $730,000) reward for information leading to the capture of Javier Duarte, who gave authorities the slip shortly after taking a leave of absence as governor of the Gulf coast state of Veracruz to face corruption charges.

The federal Attorney General’s Office said in a bulletin that it was “offering 15 million pesos to any person or persons who provide accurate and useful information for locating and arresting or apprehending Javier Duarte,” who governed Veracruz as a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, from December 2010 until last month.

Duarte, who took a leave of absence on Oct. 12 and went missing a week later, is wanted on charges including racketeering and money laundering, the AG’s office said.

...Veracruz Gov.-elect Miguel Angel Yunes, a member of the conservative National Action Party, or PAN, who is scheduled to take office on Dec. 1, says he has evidence that Duarte looted the state’s coffers.
