Young Americans Have a Message for Donald Trump's America (Fusion)

Calls for unity and promises of inclusion from the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, appear not to have neutralized his message of hate and division, according to tens of thousands of protesters across the US.

A few hours after his triumph, thousands of Americans took to the streets of cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Oakland, Seattle and Boston to protest the election of the billionaire.

Trump said early on Wednesday, during his brief speech following his victory over the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, that he would rule from Jan 20th for all Americans and he would look after 'the forgotten men and women of the country'.

His words are a throw back to those pronounced by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932, in the midst of the Great Depression, and represent, for a few, an attempt to change the opinion of the half of the American public who rejected him, as well as change his image as a bigoted, racist.



Thousands of people raised the slogan 'You are not our President' in protests that led to arrests, violence, the use of tear gas, the closure of streets and vandalism.

According to the media, the protesters expressed concern about the hate against minorities encouraged by Trump, who linked Mexicans with criminals, announced the construction of a wall between the United States and Mexico and threatened to prevent the entry of Muslims into the country.

They also recalled his attacks on women, with banners describing him as sexist as well as racist.
