US Border Patrol to record use-of-force data (Newsy)

Senior US and Mexican government officials on Thursday highlighted issues related to protecting migrant human rights at their eighth annual bilateral dialogue on the subject including use of force at the border, the Department of State said in a press release.

Both governments acknowledged the need to implement a global compact for safe, ordered and regular migration in 2018 as addressed in the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in September, the release added.

"A wide bilateral agenda was also discussed during the dialogue…the human rights of migrants and the use of force at the border; and the improvement of police practices and the criminal justice system, particularly with regard to the treatment of minorities," the release stated on Thursday.

Earlier this month, the US Supreme Court agreed it will decide whether a US Border Patrol agent can be sued for shooting and killing a Mexican teenager who was playing near the border in 2010.
