Patricia Trujillo Mariel, new Chief of the Scientific Division of Federal Police (Noticias MVS)

Dr. Patricia Trujillo has been appointed the first female division chief in the history of Mexico’s Federal Police, the National Security Commission said.

Trujillo was chosen to succeed Ciro Humberto Ortiz as head of the Scientific Division based in part on her “high level of specialization,” Federal Police Commissioner Manelich Castilla said.

A surgeon by training, Trujillo also holds two doctoral degrees in the sciences and has taught forensic medicine at universities in Mexico and abroad.

Before joining the Federal Police seven years ago, she headed the federal medical examiner’s office.

Trujillo, a member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors and the European Society of Criminology, is the author of 28 books on subjects including forensic medicine, criminology and toxicology.
