Most Mexicans Seeking Asylum in the United States Are Rejected Prensa Latina

Almost nine thousand Mexicans applied to the United States for asylum last year, saying they feared for their lives. But only 124 were actually granted the right to live in the U-S. Adam Raney spoke to one man on the Mexico-US border, who says his life depends on escaping his country. (Al Jazeera English)

Hundreds of Mexican families are stranded on the border with the United States, whose government denies them asylum from the violence in their hometowns, it was reported today.

This happens in Tijuana, at the confluence with hundreds of Haitians and Africans.

Seven out of 10 of those Mexicans come primarily of Guerrero and Michoacan, says the coordinator of the Coalition for the Defense of Migrants, José Moreno.

Moreno said that since 2013 there was an increase of Mexicans who arrived in Baja California, forced by violence in their hometowns.

Since, three thousand Mexican citizens, including women and children, have sought asylum to the US government at the crossings of Calexico and San Ysidro, California, he said.

...Virtually all Mexican migrants seeking asylum are rejected; 90 percent of them are deported after passing a half year locked up with those of other nationalities, he affirmed.
