Fans Swarm to Mexico's Capital to Pay Last Farewell to Singer Juan Gabriel Ruptly TV

Over half a million people lined the streets of Mexico City, Monday, for a farewell ceremony for Latin music legend Juan Gabriel, whose ashes were carried by motorcade to the Palace of Fine Arts after arriving from the singer's home town of Ciudad Juarez.

On Saturday, up to 50,000 people took part in a street festival and Mass, celebrated outside the singers home in Ciudad Juarez. Following the funeral ceremony in Mexico City, the music legend's ashes will be taken to rest at his Ciudad Juarez home, as he requested. Gabriel's family plan to turn the home into a museum.

Juan Gabriel, known as the 'Divo of Juarez,' suffered a heart attack at his home in Santa Monica, California, on August 28, at the age of 66, while still on tour in the United States. The singer sold tens of millions of albums and won six Grammy nominations during his career.

Gabriel was born in Paracuaro, Michoacan state on January 7, 1950. Gabriel's mother moved the family to Ciudad Juarez when he was four years old, after his father was committed to a mental institution.
