A U.S. sports fishing boat carrying 26 people went down off Mexico's Baja California state over the weekend, but everyone aboard was rescued, officials said Monday.

Profepa federal environmental protection agency vessels and navy ships began searching the Coronado Islands early Saturday in response to a request from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The U.S. Coast Guard notified authorities that the Invicta, a sports fishing boat based in San Diego, California, sank in waters under Mexican federal jurisdiction in the Pacific, the Profepa said in a statement.

"During the transfer, Coast Guard personnel reported the rescue of the 26 aboard safe and sound," the environmental protection agency said.

Mexican authorities found the boat's wreckage and "small glowing stains apparently caused by diesel," the Profepa said.
