Merida will be one of 10 US and Mexican cities joining in simultaneous activity in public spaces to promote giving hugs in public spaces, as an act to honor children with cancer. The Oct. 8 activity supports those with limited resources who need proper nutrition to advance treatment.

The event is organized by the Hugs Heart Association JE, AC, which works to promote nutrition of cancer patients with vegan meal plans and supplements to give them specific properties that strengthen their body and improve their quality of life.

In an interview Joseph H. Underwood, president and founder of the organization, explained that it is a second-level association that supports shelters to give care to children with cancer, however it also benefits infants with chronic degenerative diseases.

The event will take place Saturday October 8, from 16:00 to 19:00 hours, in public spaces in Morelos; Leon, Guanajuato; Oaxaca; Merida, Yucatan; Mexico City, Durango; Cancun, Quintana Roo; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Denver, Colorado.

On these sites for three hours volunteers will give away hugs and promote the donation to raise funds aimed at buying dietary supplements to be delivered to shelters, as well as the implementation of specific nutrition schemes, both free of animal protein.

This movement has its origins in the family history of its founder, who lived the fight against cancer bravely in memory of his son Jose Enrique, who died on October 12, 2013 at age 18 at home.
