The Latest from the Mexican CNTE Teachers Fight (teleSUR English)

Despite the presence of hundreds of police, thousands of dissident teachers managed to demonstrate in Mexico City's Zócalo by implementing an "operation of ants" in order to get near the National Palace, where they held a rally to protest the Education Reform.

Police from the Mexico City Secretariat of Public Security conducted an operation to try to contain a possible demonstration from arriving in the Plaza of the Constitution [Zócalo], because teachers with the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers [CNTE] had announced a march that would set off from the Juárez Monument.

So hundreds of teachers traveled in small groups by public bus, Metro and on foot, then gathered outside the Metropolitan Cathedral.

The arrival of massive contingents that held a rally in front of the National Palace began shortly after 10:30 a.m. In a makeshift kiosk, CNTE leaders said, "We broke through the police line in order to reach the heart of the homeland. We teachers resist, and we will resist."

Francisco Bravo, a member of the political leadership of the dissident teachers, emphasized that the federal government is "giving the run-around to the conflict, which will last as long as they want, because they continue raising proposals within [the framework of] the Education Reform, and we say no. If this situation continues, it is the government itself that threatens the start of the 2016-2017 school year."
