The tragic disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa students brought more attention to the tens of thousands of other Mexicans who have gone missing in recent years. (AJ+)

Dozens of relatives of persons disappeared in several states, including Mexico City, Colima, Sinaloa and Guerrero, have installed a sit-in and hunger strike outside the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in Mexico City. Protesters are staying in a lane on Paseo de la Reforma [main boulevard] in front of the headquarters of the Federal Public Ministry.

The protesters demand a meeting with PGR officials and representatives of the Commission for Assistance to Victims with the aim that they might attend to their [protesters'] demands for justice and investigation of each case.

The protesters set up their sit-down protest during Wednesday night. Attorney General Arely Gómez González met with them and, in a press release, reported that she received "the concerns of representative of a committee of relatives of persons in the situation of disappeared."

She also reported that she instructed Eber Omar Betanzos Torres, Deputy Attorney General for Human Rights, Crime Prevention and Community Services, to look after the protesters who were outside the building, and who formed a committee to negotiate with the official. The agency said that "it reiterates its inescapable commitment to get to the bottom of the events."
